Japanese Reiki, rooted in ancient Japanese healing practices, is a spiritual and energy-based healing modality that seeks to restore balance and harmony within the body, mind, and spirit. Originating from the teachings of Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, Japanese Reiki places emphasis on personal development, self-healing, and spiritual growth. It involves the gentle laying on of hands or hovering over the body to channel universal life force energy, known as "ki" in Japanese, to promote relaxation, stress reduction, and holistic wellness. Japanese Reiki techniques include traditional hand positions, to facilitate the flow of energy and remove energetic blockages. Unlike some Western interpretations, Japanese Reiki views healing as a holistic process that encompasses not only physical symptoms but also emotional, mental, and spiritual imbalances.
